"Esta cidade vai virar um hotel" translates to this city is going to become a hotel and was taken as a reference from the song "Gentrificasamba" by Luca Argel.
This part consists of the photos I captured, edited, and selected for the magazine I created. Not all of them are included here, but I decided to choose some to represent. Many of them are displayed side by side to highlight the contrasts between a prosperous, tourist-oriented Lisbon, and a gentrified, impoverished, and neglected Lisbon. This city is an example of contrasts.
There is a portal called Idealista, which serves as a platform for people who have houses or apartments for rent, buying houses or plots of land. They advertised themselves as "Idealista, the leading real estate app in Portugal." While Idealista is not the main problem of gentrification in Lisbon, it significantly contributes to real estate speculation in the city. There are minimal or barely habitable spaces being sold at exorbitant prices. I personally have used Idealista to search for rental rooms, and the prices were always too high for a single room. Therefore, I decided to subvert the Idealista advertisement and changed it to "Monopolista," with the slogan "The leading gentrifying app in Portugal."
Lisbon has many beautiful places, but the ugly points are often overlooked. That's why I decided to create a section in the magazine showcasing the ugly spots of the city because they also deserve attention.
